Australia announces gift to The Queen

On behalf of the people of Australia, the Australian Government has announced a contribution of $10,000 to Wildlife SEQ Inc., in honour of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The contribution will go towards the care and rehabilitation of koalas affected by illness and injury.

This keeps with an emerging tradition of Australia marking significant royal occasions with support to the conservation of native fauna.

Past contributions have gone to Bilby, Mountain Pygmy Possum and Numbat conservation.

This latest contribution focuses on Australia’s iconic koala, and comes as Australia and the Commonwealth celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years of service.

Wildlife SEQ Inc is a not-for-profit registered charity providing rehabilitation and release services to native wildlife in South East Queensland.

It is run solely by volunteers and dedicated to ensuring native fauna has the chance to live successfully in the wild.

The organisation also supports and facilitates community education through workshops, programs, presentations and talks.
